Vanderpump Rules Season 12 Begins Filming With Brand-New Cast After Scandoval

Get ready for more Pumptinis and goat cheese balls because the SUR gang is back in action as Vanderpump Rules season 12 has reportedly begun filming with an entirely new cast. Vanderpump Rules has aired on Bravo since 2013, but the original cast of servers, including Stassi Schroeder, Jax Taylor, Kristen Doute, Tom Sandoval, and Scheana Shay, won’t be returning for its next iteration. This cast shakeup comes a couple years after Tom Sandoval and Rachel “Raquel” Leviss’ cheating scandal broke wide open, which forced producers to continue filming Vanderpump Rules season 10.

A fresh group of Angelenos will take the helm and build on the legacy of the series as filming for Vanderpump Rules season 12 begins.

According to Paradefilming with an entirely new cast has begun for Vanderpump Rules season 12. “Filming for the new season…is underway. They filmed at SUR this week and have a totally new cast of people who work at the restaurant,” according to a source. Parade also reported that showrunner Alex Baskin had previously said in a statement, “What a thrill it is to build on the legacy of this series by doing it all over again….We can’t wait for the audience to see a dynamic new group of co-workers and friends make their way through life together.”

The cast of SUR employees has large stilettos to fill, as the original stars and the show’s original run are widely regarded as some of the best reality TV that’s ever airedVanderpump Rules launched the careers of Stassi, Jax, Kristen, Scheana, James Kennedy, Tom Sandoval, Tom Schwartz, Katie Maloney, Brittany Cartwright, Ariana Madix, and Lala Kent. Many of them have stayed on the network in some capacity, or expanded beyond the world of reality TV into influencing, podcasting, hosting, writing books, and more.

Still, they’d aged out of the original concept of the show, and once they began starting families of their own, it felt like the right time to start Vanderpump Rules over with some fresh stars. It’s not the first time Bravo has revamped a long-running show’s cast. They attempted it on The Real Housewives Of New York City in 2023 when they cleaned house and cast an entirely new group of women to be centered on the show. It was met with mixed reviews, and after a second season with the new cast, the show has been tentatively shelved.

Our Take On Vanderpump Rules Season 12 Filming With New Cast

It’s An Exciting Time For Vanderpump Rules

Vanderpump Rules' Lisa Vanderpump, Ariana Madix and Tom Sandoval appear caught off guard.

The pressure is on for the new Vanderpump Rules crew to deliver the way the original cast did. Bravo is in a somewhat difficult situation with the new iteration, since audiences are so attached to the original cast. We’ve been with them for so long, so it’s hard to conceive of Vanderpump Rules without them. It was clear that the show needed to make changes, though, as it had been on its last legs until the scandal known as “Scandoval” breathed new life into the series. That didn’t last long, and the reviews for Vanderpump Rules season 11 weren’t kind.

As long as Bravo does right by the original cast, and finds a place for some of them to land, like The Valley, which sees Kristen, Jax, and Brittany as they embarked on their adult lives while living in L.A., the new iteration will have a lot of support. While there can never be another cast who brought us so many iconic moments like the original Vanderpump Rules crew did, we’re looking forward to seeing what this new cast can do. It’s the end of an era but also an opportunity for a fresh start.
