Scheana Shay Responds To Claims She Bought Her Own Book in Bulk To Claim Bestseller Title

Obviously, that’s not true. That’s not how the Best Seller list works. They have a detailed vetting process explained on their website, and Scheana set the record straight for all of the haters out there.

Scheana Shay explains dagger next to her book on New York Times Best Seller list

It should come as no surprise that this clapback came during the latest episode of her podcast, Scheananigans. If there are lingering rumors circulating on the net, that’s where she goes to set things straight. In the August 12 episode, Scheana addressed the dagger on the NYT Best Seller List.

“For my book tour, I worked with a company called Premiere to manage book sales at each event. This is something that is really common in publishing. It’s how you make sure those copies coming to a signing or a live show that they will absolutely get a copy of the book,” Scheana explained. “But this whole thing with the dagger next to my name.”

She continued, “When someone bought a ticket to the tour — if they did it by a certain date — they had to order the right amount of copies of the books for each venue. So they had to order the right amount of books for each venue. With the ticket to one of my live shows, it included one copy of the book.”

Scheana took her book tour all around the United States, which helped fuel sales. It’s a common practice in publishing, and Scheana said with confidence that “those sales are completely legitimate.” Fans genuinely wanted to read her memoir and also see her on tour.

“This can happen,” she continued. “Because so many of my fans came out to the tour and got their books from Premiere instead of a mix of other retailers. I guess the New York Times flagged it. But here’s the thing, would I rather be on The New York Times bestsellers list with a dagger or not be on it at all?”

That’s a valid point from Scheana, and she also pointed out that her book earned a spot on The New York Times list for audiobooks with no dagger. She also made a bestseller list in Canada. So, whether you want to believe it or not, Scheana’s book is a success.

Vanderpump Rules is streaming on Peacock. The show streams on Hayu in the UK and Ireland.
