Catherine & William Burst Into Emotion Over Huge Personal Announcement To Welcome New Addition
Today, we share a tender and joyful family moment that highlights the compassion and quiet strength at the heart of royal life.
King Charles III has received a wonderful family update during Prince William and Princess Catherine’s summer getaway: Peter Phillips, the eldest grandson of Queen Elizabeth II and son of Princess Anne, is officially engaged!
Peter recently announced his engagement to Harriet Sperling, an NHS nurse, after a year of dating. The happy news was shared alongside photos of the couple, with Harriet proudly showing off her engagement ring.
A spokesperson for Peter, Gerard Franklin, confirmed:
“Mr. Peter Phillips, son of HRH The Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips, and Miss Harriet Sperling have today confirmed their official engagement.”
King Charles, Queen Camilla, and the Prince and Princess of Wales have all been informed and are reportedly delighted by the news.
Peter shares a special bond with his younger cousin, Prince William, as they grew up closely together, forging a lifelong connection. Recently, Peter praised William and Catherine in a candid Sky News Australia interview, calling Catherine “remarkable” and admiring how the couple balances public duties with parenting their three children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
He said, “They’ve got it pretty right because, as history has shown, you want to be there for your children.”
Growing up, Peter and William often spent holidays together at Queen Elizabeth’s royal estates and regularly attended key family events, including Trooping the Color and Christmas Day services at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham.
At his first garden party since Catherine stepped back from royal duties due to her health battle, Prince William appeared to appreciate the support of Peter, who was warmly engaging with guests despite the rainy weather — a gesture of solidarity during a challenging time.
In recent months, sources suggest Peter has become like an older brother figure to William, especially as the Prince of Wales remains estranged from Prince Harry.
Peter proposed to Harriet with a stunning ring, described by 77 Diamonds co-founder Tobias Cormind as a timeless trilogy design featuring a central oval or round diamond flanked by trapeze-cut stones. Similar rings from 77 Diamonds typically start around £10,000, with the final price depending on specifics like cut and carat.
Peter Phillips is the only son of the Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips. He was once fifth in line to the throne at his birth in 1977 and is now 19th. Peter was married to Autumn Kelly from 2008 until their divorce in 2021, and they share two daughters, Savannah and Isla.
While no wedding date has been announced yet, the King, Queen, and Prince and Princess of Wales have all been informed.
Peter and Harriet made their public debut last May at the Badminton Horse Trials and have since appeared together at major events like Royal Ascot and Prince William’s charity polo match, where Harriet was seen chatting warmly with the King and Queen.
Meanwhile, behind the scenes, King Charles appears to be consolidating power for a future transition, even as tensions remain within the family. For example, Prince Andrew continues to be excluded from official royal duties, with reports suggesting no path to reinstatement.
Fans are watching closely as these family dynamics unfold. While some believe Andrew has “won” by remaining at Royal Lodge, others warn that he could lose influence when William eventually takes on more responsibilities.
