Catherine’s Son Louis Shines as ‘Ball Boy’ And Receives Priceless Gift Touching Surprise

Catherine, Princess of Wales, has long been celebrated not only for her elegance and poise but for her deep-rooted love of sport—a passion she has clearly passed on to her three children: Prince George (11), Princess Charlotte (10), and Prince Louis (7).

While the Princess is known to enjoy running and outdoor pursuits, tennis holds a particularly special place in her heart. As patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, she is a familiar and beloved presence at Wimbledon, often seen courtside radiating her trademark warmth and enthusiasm.

But in a delightful revelation during this year’s championships, the Princess shared an intimate and charming detail about her youngest son, Prince Louis. Although still too young to attend Wimbledon in person, Louis has already carved out a sweet role in his mother’s tennis world—serving as her “ball boy” during family matches at home.

“He watches closely how the ball boys and girls stand and move,” the Princess told 16-year-old ball boy Joel during a conversation at the All England Club.
“He even mimics them at home—and was very upset not to be here today.”

It’s a tender anecdote that shows Prince Louis’s growing fascination with the sport, inspired not just by his family’s royal traditions but by his mother’s love for the game. Despite being left behind as George and Charlotte joined their parents at SW19, Louis’s absence from the stands hasn’t dampened his enthusiasm.

In fact, Catherine revealed that all three of her children are “keen” players, with Louis taking up a child-sized racket as early as age four. His dedication is more than just cute—it’s the foundation of a growing personal passion nurtured by a sporting mother.

This early love for tennis was recognized in a truly special way during the 2019 men’s singles final. While attending alongside the Duke of Kent, the Princess received a surprise gift from none other than Stan Smith—the 1972 Wimbledon champion and namesake of the iconic Adidas sneaker line.

But the gift wasn’t for her.
It was for Prince Louis.

A pair of custom Adidas Stan Smith trainers, emblazoned with the words “To Louis” and personally signed by Smith himself, was presented to Catherine as a keepsake for her toddler son. While Louis may have been too young to understand the gesture at the time, the gift symbolized the timeless, intergenerational joy of tennis—from legend to hopeful future player.

Catherine’s role as both royal and mother is never more beautifully balanced than in these quiet moments—where a simple sport becomes a lasting family bond. Whether it’s guiding George and Charlotte through their first Wimbledon experiences or encouraging Louis as he practices his ball boy stance in the garden, the Princess of Wales continues to champion not only tennis, but the values it represents: discipline, focus, joy, and togetherness.

Her own enthusiasm remains undimmed—even if royal duties now limit her opportunities to play. Behind closed doors, however, the court is still alive with laughter, competition, and the gentle patter of tennis balls… and one very determined little boy imagining his debut on Centre Court.
